Just before I left the house to go to the supermarket this morning, it occurred to me that the last time I had put my ‘normal'* shoes on was two weeks ago, when I last shopped. That led me further to realise that since we arrived home six weeks ago, I have worn my shoes just four times.
That is how many times I have left our property for a reason other than going for a run.
In a similar vein of all-time records (because I can’t believe there has been any other time in my life that has come close to this period of not needing street shoes), Mick has not been in a moving vehicle for six weeks.
Strange times indeed.

Well at least that is not something unpleasant or unbearable that you are having to put up with. I normally use fully skimmed long life milk. Asda home delivery have none in stock. Internet searching lead me to buying a 12 x pack of 500ml. semi skimmed. The only time I use milk is in my tea or very occasionally to make a white sauce. I opened the first carton just now for my breakfast tea drinking and I've found the taste is foul - as bad or possibly worse than those revolting mini cartons you get in hotel rooms. The search will have to be continued - as soon as I can find the proper thing that stuff is going to be ditched.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting what variations there are across the country as to what is (and is not) available. Long life milk, both skimmed and semi, was one of the first items to reappear on the 'milk and baking' set of shelves in our local Lidl and has been in stock ever since, but (as of last Monday) there was still no flour or sultanas.
DeleteWe don't generally use dairy milk these days*, but I keep a long life semi-skimmed in the cupboard for the event of sudden need. I sometimes wonder, when pouring some into a visitor's mug of tea, whether they are used to some different type of milk and thus find my offering highly offensive. To date, if that has happened, they've been too polite to say so!
(*No veganism involved. I've a long-standing aversion to dairy milk (not quite a phobia, but I really don't like anything about the substance), and Mick only used to have it on cereal, but now has porridge made with water for breakfast.)
My weekly delivery order from Woolworths supermarket always includes a 3 litre container of lite fresh milk which just lasts us. Fresh veggies are often in short supply or very tired, so my daughter kindly brings us these from a greengrocers near her office. I enjoy not having to shop and haven't been for 5 weeks. I am still waiting for my knitting wool. Australia Post seems to have ground to a halt!
DeleteI have mixed feelings about grocery shopping at the moment. On the one hand I'd happily avoid the supermarket if I could, but on the other hand the drive there and back gives me a wonderful illusion of freedom and near-normality (not quite normality, as Mick doesn't come with me even for the ride).
DeleteYour yarn delivery *still* hasn't arrived? That's been quite a while now, hasn't it? That said, we posted something up to Ma-in-Law a couple of weeks ago and even over the relatively short distance involved, and without any international travel, it took 10 days to arrive.
