Where's Bertie? He spent a night at one of the two Aires in Zamora. Exact location: 41.503226, -5.756893.
Weather: Light cloud in the morning. No recollection of the rest of the day, but there must have been quite a bit of sunshine, and there wasn't any rain.
Our day started with a 12km circuit that saw us descend the short way to a reservoir and proceed along its non-dammed end, then almost its entire length. As we jogged along the easy, and relatively flat, vehicle track, I suggested that when we got to the end, we might want to just turn around and retrace our steps, as the return leg of the circuit was alongside the motorway. In the UK (and various other countries) that would not make for a good route, purely because of the intrusive noise. However, motorways in Spain tend to be quiet, so when we got to the decision point, we continued on with the circuit. A good call: not only did we get a better workout with the succession of short sharp ups and downs (a veritable rollercoaster), but we got a good view down to the reservoir and to the layers of hills surrounding it.
Snaps from the outing. We were surrounded by excellent hilly scenery.
Back at Bertie, we tried to make haste as we showered, had second breakfast, made drinks for the road, and got everything packed away. Then we were off.
Despite the fact that it's only a day later as I'm typing this, and we both remember what we had for lunch yesterday, neither of us can remember where we had it. We both assume we must have stopped along the way*.
I think we reached Zamora in the middle of the afternoon, but all we saw of the town yesterday was this impressive view as we drove in. I took a couple of strolls around the parkland next to the Aire, but otherwise the rest of the day was indoors. Good job we'd had such a good outing in the morning to carry us through!
