Where's Bertie? He's still in the car park at Schlosspark Monrepos.
Weather: Sunny, hot and uncomfortably humid until this evening when it has clouded over (but is still hot and humid).
When we arrived here on Wednesday we didn't expect to stay and certainly not for three nights. However, by yesterday afternoon it seemed pointless going elsewhere only to return for tomorrow's parkrun. That left us at a loose end today - the sort of day that, when at home, would involve much sitting around and drinking of tea with a little bit of pottering. Today went something like that, but on a bigger scale.
For example, doing a load of laundry* first thing involved an 8km return bike ride (rather than just a walk to the kitchen, as it would at home). That the outward ride was mainly uphill suprised me as, after five days around Ludwigsburg, I had in it my mind as a flat place. Coming back was easier!
I'd gone early - a good move as it was busy soon after my arrival (a curious thing: laundrettes are few and far between in Germany, and just about non-existent outside of the big towns and cities, yet there's obviously a demand for them) - so I was back at Bertie well before elevenses. That gave us time to stow the laundry then go out for coffee. A 2.5km walk took us across the park and along a sunflower-lined farm track, to Ikea.
Coffee at Ikea rolled into lunch. Stuff was downloaded, the crossword completed. Eventually we felt we should leave - possibly a mistake, as the aircon inside the store was much more pleasant than the humidity outside. It's felt far hotter this afternoon than the reality of 31 degrees.
As I type it's looking and feeling like it might rain. That would be welcome just for a little while, to freshen the air.
Bit of a random snap today: after two months of wearing sandals, the tan lines on my feet have reached new heights of ridiculousness.
(*I only did laundry a week ago, but I'd established that the laundrettes in Mannheim (where we will be next weekend) are even less conveniently situated than the one in Ludwigsburg, so it made sense to do another load now.)
