Where's Bertie? He's still in the car park at Schlosspark Monrepos.
Weather: Mainly sunny, but with some clouds building (then dissipating) in the middle of the day. Mid- to high-twenties.

We walked around a prison today. Without explaining further, that sounds a little odd, doesn't it?
The location for this activity was Asperg, a 4km walk from where Bertie is currently sitting, and the reason for the visit was a recommendation we received last weekend.
The town of Asperg, which celebrates its 1200th birthday this year, is itself unremarkable (or maybe it is remarkable for its mishmash of architecture and unGerman look?), but above the town is Hohenasperg - a pimple in a flat landscape, atop which is a fortress.
First view of the pimple atop which sits the old fortress
Extensive views over the flatness below
It was only when we'd walked up to the top of the pimple and were on our way around the exterior of its outer wall that we spotted the distinctive prison fencing inside. It also houses a museum (to reach which you have to enter the fortress through one of the towers, then turn a sharp right immediately in front of the prison gates and walk alongside the prison fencing - that felt rather odd as visitor attractions go too).
The point at which I said "Is that a prison?"
The museum (and the prison) is accessed via that tower
We didn't go into the museum, but we did spend a while translating bits of the history-charting display outside the walls:
Extensive history display on the far right of shot. The fortress has a long and varied history.
We dithered on our way back down the hill as to whether it was worth taking a walk into the town's MarktPlatz and finally decided we may as well as we were only a kilometre away. The benefit of having taken the trouble is that we now *know* that it wasn't worth the effort!
The main square, with Rathaus on the left, half-timered building in the background and a modern box on the right.
We returned to Bertie via a slightly extended route, taking in a path I had already run three times first thing this morning. We paused to spectate as it crossed the golf course and saw some spectacularly unskillful shots played.
Morning light on the lake
Late this afternoon, after I'd been for another strollette, mundane things had to be done. It's incredible how much grit and dirt can accumulate on Bertie's floor (or maybe its more incredible how long I can ignore the accumulation before I do anything about it?), so whilst Mick took himself out of my way, I brought Bertie back to an acceptable state. He came back having found one of the displays in Monrepos Park's Planets walk:

The boats on the lake form their own sculpture.
